from Mix-O-Rap Groove 12″ (Littlejohn, 198?)
Though attempts to turn Cheese Rap into a marketable ebay catch phrase ala Random Rap have failed thus far, I remain undeterred in my quest to basically find the worst rap records possible. Especially now that all the good rare joints are all over the internet, too costly or being hoarded by bearded men who used to exclusively sweat Beatles Butcher Covers until they accidentally typed “posse” into popsike.
There’s something infinitely more interesting about a rapper that went left and got lost then another hard head who just settled for sounding like Kane. Mix-o-Rap, one such failed adventurer, probably had greater aspirations than his weirdly ethereal go-go inspired Casio funk would ever achieve. Nonetheless it’s sort of hypnotic, at least until the flute and sax solos kick in (courtesy of “CJ ‘Toot’ The Flute & ‘Sax Of Attack’”). Mix-O raps like the Rappin’ Duke or someone’s father. Or maybe the Rappin’ Duke’s father. His government name is Littlejohn. Highly recommended!
Update: PPU records is reissuing “All Party People”.
