Ill Mannered Posse (Cougnut) – “I’m Rollin’“
from Gangster Rock N Roll 12″ (Ill Mannered Productions, 198?)
Ill Mannered Posse (Coughnut) – “Scandlous“
from No Prisoners EP (Maxcadocious, 198?)
Ill Mannered Posse (C-Fresh) – “I’m a Maniac“
from I’m a Maniac Cassingle (Maxcadocious, 198?)
It’s been a long time since I’ve busted out some classic Bay Rap tapes, so here are some joints from San Francisco’s IMP. Cougnut and C-Fresh were the central members of the crew, their first few releases were basically split solo records. Coug, who tragically passed away in a car crash in ’01, showed an incredible attention to detail as a writer, check “Rollin’” where he weaves everything to the girls finger nails to the digits on the phone into his rhyme. When you think about it there aren’t a lot of mcs with that sort of eye for minutiae. Biggie comes to mind immediately, but beyond that most rappers are more interested in the larger story. But even more than that Coug got by on a distinctive raspy flow – something like LL if he went through the car window instead of DOC. Keak was definitely taking notes. C-Fresh was no slack himself, check “Maniac” (a confusing solo cassingle that features the exact same artwork and title as No Prisoners) where he compares himself to Hitler and Charles Manson.
All three of these joints were laced by the legendary Al Eaton.
Do you guys want me to rip IMP Dogs tomorrow?
