Regional Rap Map

Idolator has a full scan of Bob Mack’s circa-1990 “Hip Hop Map Of America,” which originally appeared in Spin. LOL @ the above quote, and the assertion that Philly was known for a “suburbanized, accessible Cosby Kids look/sound.” Tell it to Cool C & Steady B.
I laugh now, but I’m sure half of what I write on this site will look just as absurd in 18 years.

Another thing I really enjoyed is the calculation that there were exactly 105 rappers in the Bay Area.
Can you imagine the audacity of trying to count the number of rappers in ANY American city in 2008?

Or that their personal favorite, “an Asian rapper named The Automator,” who isn’t actually a rapper.
Divine Styler as “the Timothy Leary of rap.”
Biz Markie’s never produced saturday morning cartooon “The Adventures of Mouth Man.”
This shit made my night.

I mean, I think it’s still the case. Some of those funny sounding accents and pronunciations just don’t work! There’s just something ignorant about the very sound of Plies’s voice to me. Or Gucci Mane’s. Or Shawty Lo’s. Or Rich Boy’s. They should go into country music.

hu ? you mean country rap tunes ?

No, I mean country music, like Alan Jackson. That’s a type of music where redneck accents are appropriate. Besides, it’s not a far leap from rapping about your rims to rapping about your pickup truck.

I think people without a south-bronx accent shouldn’t be rapping at all.
These guys from long island make me laugh every time.
