Bump J f/ Peedi Crakk & Gillie Da Kid – “Pretty Girls In The VIP
Black Deniro f/ Gillie Da Kid, Oschino, Peedi Crakk & E Ness – “Superman (Remix)
Young Chris f/ Peedi Crakk – “3,2,1

Emil just sent me a gang of zshares on new(ish) Philadelphia rap. “Pretty Girls In The VIP” being the obvious standout, Bomb Squad wall of noise + Too Short sampling chorus = noz catnip. The other two are cool, but not particularly memorable. Young Chris is still going deep with the style that Hov ran into the ground on “3,2,1″ (though it’s worth noting that Chris probably influenced Jay more than the other way around) and “Superman” just sounds like it came off a circa 99 Power 99 mixshow.

I should probably be paying more attention to Philly. There is so much talent in that city. They just need to get their shit together.

I can’t stand Gillie but Peedi is a god among perpetually shelved mixtape rappers. So noz, how do you like the Shawty Lo album? I do believe you said it was one of your 10 most anticipated of the year. I wonder if “Dunn, Dunn” is a Mobb Deep homage…

  7. noz Says:

Shawty Lo is album of the year so far. What you blind need some glasses to see?

Big Noyd may also be a contender, as the other 2008 rap album that I’ve listened to in it’s entirety.

  8. noz Says:

Seriously I am a little disappointed by how many of the Shawty Lo tracks have been released already. Maybe they will change it up on the retail?

You’re right! Philly needs to get their shit together, too much wasted talent in that town.

Nigga update this bitch more often…

  11. Tray Says:

I heard it was terrible and that he just mumbles and rhymes hello and jello and a capello for an hour. Glad to hear Noyd gets your thumbs up though. Listening to Hard To Earn every day gets kind of boring.

In related news, Beanie confirmed State Property is back together. I don’t think this would make much noise commercially but I could see them actually coming out with something good.

  13. G.M.P. Says:

i rented State Property – the movie

me & my boy just smoked a blunt & went inside to watch it. i didnt make any sense at all – all we remember is that it was ghetto as fuck

btw, yknow in the west, we could give a fuck about a mixtape rapper, a mixtape is just what a rapper who wont get a major does for his main body of work. even if we can dl that shit for free, most ppl only dlin wayne and clipse hahaha.
