Turf Drop

E-40 f/ Lil Jon – “Turf Drop“
from The Ball Street Journal (Sick Wid It/BME, 2008)
Lead single from the forthcoming Ball Street Journal. It’s a pretty blatant attempt to recreate the success of “Tell Me When To Go,” but I guess that’s better than “U And Dat Again.” Besides, 40’s been so quiet lately that it’s good to hear anything from dude. Rumor has it the new album is on some grown man shit. We shall see.
This is the clean mix, deal with it.

That beat is pretty annoying, yet 40 raps well as always. The song isn’t that good on first listen because of that beat. Wonder if “grown man” 40 is going to come out and do songs like “The Story” from Tha Hall Of Game. Looking forward to The Ball Street Journal.

I don’t understand the disdain for “U And Dat”? I luv’d that track one of my favorites off that album. This track could be called “Tell Me When To Go Pt 2″ but I guess it will get the kids goin’.

He needs to be on some grown man isn’t he like 40+…
But I’ll buy the album regardless
//He’s on some R&B single, w/ Bobby V if I’m not mistaken, it gets spins

the best thing about this track is the baltimore club that will sample it

benzi posted this on the hollerboard. It’s the dirty version and he added an outro too.

Lil’ Jon clings to formulas. Did they just use the same beat from the last one and strip it of it’s little sirens and beepies?

Bring back that grown man mobb style shit 40! Thats what the bay needs!
P.S. Quite trying to take Mac Dre’s crown, it will never fit your fat ass!

I agree with your comment of the beat and the arrangement. 40 water still flows lovely and original as usual. Maybe the rest of the album will gives a new slang dictionary in the time and space continum.

mac dre never was king of shit
hes got the best personality out there
but none of you bumped that shit while he was livin

ya but can you disagree?

Bluntsmaster, please don’t retire “Rotations”–it’s one of my favorite sections of the site.

COKE FLOWERS is right, no one jumped on Mac Dre’s dick until he passed (RIP) an KMEL starting putting Feelin’ Myself into rotation. If you weren’t riding MUNI with some fools posted up in the back playing One Love on their box then you didn’t come up in SF, 40 ran shit. There’s no question some of the shine rubbed off, probably since Loyalty and Betrayal, but Mr Stevens didn’t move to fucking Atlanta, he never stopped repping the Yay.
I miss the old mob style E-40 like any other fans, but with the work he put in I don’t begrudge him a thing, he can keep the crown as long as feels like it.
I don’t mind the Tell Me When To Go pt2 style, but did then have to do the call and response at the end again? I miss the days when E-40 didn’t feel like he had to explain his slang (pre Quarterbackin’ I guess).

YEAH MAN FUCK ALL THE NIGGAS WHO MOVED TO ATLANTA!

ps hahaha ive rode the 851 at night and the driver was bumpin ’sideways’.
psss on other days same driver was on the phone yellin at his mom about his laundry, one time he told a tarded person he aint ‘got time for that wheelchair bidness right now’
thats reality, baby!
February 26th, 2008 at 11:17 pm
this is way better than the shit he did with DJ Shadow
and I agree with Aurich – why does he have to explain everything now?

I think that Turf Drop Was a poor attempt to Get the attention of the Turf Dancing Culture that the Architeckz put on the Map out of Oakland…everyone knows that if the streets is Dancing off your music its official..but every since he cut the Turf Dancers The Architeckz the Stage show is not the Same he got these other dudes on stage and they are not keeping up with the lifestyle on stage….but E 40 is no rookie he makes music for people who love him and who are fans of Hip-hop…
But he should be more in touch wit his audience…..
