Strobelite Honeycomb

Apart from Busta’s monstrous verse, Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win (Remix)” is a as useless as the original mix. It’s still unclear who actually listens to these never ending hobbled together posse cuts or how there piling all these star rappers onto a minor hit and showcase for a fat DJ is at all profitable. But points go to Rick <ahem> Row-Zay for name dropping the “my Honeycomb Hideout is made of all glass” line.

If you weren’t alive in the 80s (insert requisite Ross-is-old joke) was a reference to the old Honeycomb cereal commercials above. The Honeycomb Hideout was a go-to rap reference at one point, probably because it rolls off the tongue and suggests some sort of top secret hangout where crimes can be committed (insert requisite Ross-was-a-CO joke) and honeys can be seduced (insert requisite Ross-is-a-virgin-probably joke). It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anybody rap about Honeycomb Hideouts and this is okay because it really isn’t a very good cereal. But hit the jump anyway to check a for no reason, biting ass Ego Trip style list of five classic and not-classic Honeycomb Hideout rapp lines.

1. Outkast (Big Boi) – “So Fresh, So Clean” (Laface, 2000)
“We can ride out / to the Honeycomb Hideout” (OBV.)

2. Geto Boys (Scarface) – “Cereal Killer” (Rap-A-Lot, 1994)
“Once upon a time at the Honeycomb Hideout / Sugar Bear and Mikey sat alone getting fried out”

3. Triple 6 Mafia (SOG) – “Puttin Hoes On The House(Prophet, 1993)
“Bitches run up on me / I’m taking them to the Honeycomb / Hideout / hitting it from the back / with their face down”

4. Da Youngstas (A Youngsta) – “Crewz Pop” (East West, 1993)
“I have a Honeycomb Hideout / slides out” (WAT? Da Youngstaz also have a song called “Honeycomb Hideout” about hittin’ skinz and probably mention that shit elsewhere on the album but I thought subjecting you to Youngstas album tracks might be a little much. Plus there are machetes in this video.)

5. AMG – “304 Thang(Select, 1995)
“Take your hoe to the Honeycomb Hideout / give her this mighty love then I slide out”  (THE SAME LINE BUT IT MAKES SENSE)

I truly wanted to work a bad pun about Sean Combs into this post but it’s getting late and my powers are diminishing.

Whoa, Noz puttin’ in that work. Nice layout.

  2. EWOULDBLOCK Says:

Also, I know it’s a low bar, but this is perhaps the best theme for an all-YouTube post ever.

  3. Stunt Says:

The new redesign looks hot, and good looks on integrating the tumblr, though it would be cool if I didn’t need to scroll the bar over horizontally to read the entirety of a regular post. Regardless, don’t let any minor criticisms detract from how baller this shit looks.

  4. brad Says:

I sometimes subject myself to Youngstas album tracks, but I realize I might be in the minority here.

  5. drgz Says:

cadillac girl – andre nickatina – ‘at the honeycomb hideout, i sideout’

honeycomb – nicky – ‘While we slide out to the honeycomb hide out, like champs’

  6. Mike Says:

re-design is off the hook and the selection is off the chain!

Noz, normally I agree with most everything you say, which is weird ’cause I normally disagree with most everything everyone says, but you really got me flabbergasted here: “It really isn’t a very good cereal.” WTF? As someone who spends 75 percent of his time in the supermarket in the cereal aisle I think I have some perspective when I say Honeycomb is one of the greatest.

  8. noz Says:

Sorry man it’s not even a top 20 breakfast cereal.

  9. Ben Laden Says:

Wow, great post. Big ups to the rick ross reference jokes. For some reason that I dont understand the Khaled joints are popular w/ club going hiphop people.

  10. B.S. Says:

“It’s still unclear who actually listens to these never ending hobbled together posse cuts”

    My guess is Tom Breihan.

awww man. you forgot B.G.’s verse in the song “Fuck Tha Police- Local 580″ off UNLV’s 1995 album Mac Melph Calio.

    “Bitches talkin’ shit,
    Runnin’ off at the mouth,
Some ho just snitched on my Honeycomb Hideout…”

Awww man, I always thought it was funny as hell. I thought this verse was especially appropriate for B.G. because he was at such a young age in ’95. The visual of these kids in those old HoneyComb commercials v.s. B.G. at 14 on his BMX headed to his hideout is amusing.

This post is fucking awesome top to bottom. From the clever title to the inclusion of DJ Khaled as a tag amongst real rappers. Genius!
