Alphabet Bitches

PxMxWx – “Alphabet Bitches
from Legalize: Pass The Weed (Cash Money, 1993)
PxMxWx – “Alphabet Bitches II Backwards Z to A
from High Life (Cash Money, 1994)
Lil’ Wayne – “Alphabet Bitches
from The Carter 3 Sessions (Cash Money, 2007)

One of the first acts signed to Cash Money, PMW sort of epitomized the early gangsta bounce approach the label built it’s rep upon, with a cypress hill weed fetish thing going on as well. Legalize’s cover presented them as a trio, with Big Man, Big Heavy (who appears on two tracks) and a third dude (DJ Indo?) but by the time their second record, High Life rolled around the group seemed to just be a solo vehicle for Big Man. Their/his OG “Alphabet Bitches” merges the classic alphabetized raps routine with Too Short’s “Freaky Tales” concept and then, just to show off, Big Man does it all in reverse on the follow up.

For whatever reason, Wayne decided to reach 15 years back into the CMRchives to flip the hook and concept of the track. I generally find nu-Wayne to be most interesting when he’s fusing his modern day cipher rat who found the percocet bottle persona with his old school bounce roots, and his “Alphabet Bitches” is a fairly explicit example of this mentality. He even works in a line from his source of later day inspiration Sean “Old” Carter (she never tell me ‘no’, the most she say is ‘not here’). It’s definitely not the greatest Wayne track to leak over the past few weeks (that would be “La La”), but it’s worth a listen.

Big thanks to Patrick D for pointing this remake out to me. I would’ve completely missed it, having only downloaded seventeen of the eighteen tapes Wayne dropped last week.

Another interesting footnote: Wayne’s much touted cover of Outkast’s “Jazze Belle,” also from The Carter 3 but thus far without a leak, will be inexplicably titled “P.M.W.” Could be a coincidence though.

So how many times has the alphabetized rap thing been used? I can think of this one, Papoose, Visionaries, and Blackalicious. I gotta say that I don’t think anybody will top “Alphabet Aerobics.”

good drop noz… and how many mixtapes did wayne drop last wk??? i think i’ve got like 4 and i doubt that is all of them.. insane!

i also like when wayne brings back older classics in his tracks. he does it ALOT on the carter 3 sessions. i think only older heads from the south will pick up on most of it. some shit is obvious like on “I Know The Future” when wayne repeats “i know they can’t fuck wit me cause i can’t fuck wit my damn self” over n over in the chorus thats all mystikal. another obvious is at the end of “Time For Us To Fuck” he chants an old PNC track chorus. i was gonna make a mixtape and blend wayne with all the originals he samples but haven’t had time. i think i will sometime soon just cause most wayne fans never heard old bounce or any of the tracks wayne pays homage to in his songs so i think it would be nice to introduce them to it thru lil wayne.

I know that DJ Wiz was one of Big Man’s associates from way back. In case you weren’t aware of this, Big Man moved to Atlanta after about ‘94 and started calling himself Freak Nasty.

Wayne seems to be digging into the local scene a lot for material these days…the song “Go DJ” was more or less adapted from a very similar local hit by UNLV circa 2004.

Any song that uses the same bassline as “Freaky Tales” is good in my book. Never heard this PMW.
