Hustle Till I Die and all of Juice Manes mixtapes this year prove DJ Paul is the one who is reponsible for Three 6’s downfall plus I really dont think juicy needs him fuck he could take Project & Wyte get a little pressing and distribution deal with Select-O and do their thing paul really is holding them back.
New Genesis sounds so right on the track. WF’s right about Juice. Looking forward to some great music from him, Wyte and Pat in 2010. I get way more mileage out of these quality mixtape tracks than most of the album junts. Got a feeling the Wyte Christmas mixtape’s going to be trouble..
And the funny thing is, women aren’t couches either.
Seriously, I can tolerate plenty of misogyny in rap, because I feel like a lot of it is purposefully overstated and shouldn’t be taken seriously. Or, it’s just how an individual feels and I’m not really going to judge them as a person when it’s the music I’m interested in. That being said, the actual physical violence in this one is more than I personally can handle. That doesn’t mean I don’t still respect all three artists.
Right. Ike Turner is not an admirable figure in this sense. He was a great musician, but he was also a wife-beating piece of shit. “Ike Turner Pimpin” means what, you’re a cunt who hits women? Please.
SIDE COMMENT – Recently cocaine blunts has been rocking this sidebar ad for Gillette Fusion Power that has the tagline, “The preferred razor of African American men.”
But on the real, I’m all for not-giving-a-fuck raps, but a lot of the rap music, and some might argue it’s gotten more pronounced in recent years, seems to caricature and celebrate some of the less desirable aspects of black culture without giving enough weight to the positive things communities like North Memphis have to offer.
On the one hand, it’s fun to exchange fuck faces and get faded and be rich, but not really wealthy, but on the other hand, that’s only one side of the coin. And it doesn’t sound like a path towards greater equality in America. If there’s one thing we can learn from the Gully v. Gaza thing in Jamaica, it’s that kids, especially bored less-educated kids, are influenced by the dominant pop culture that surrounds them. If it’s more cool too buy chains and disrespect their women than to buy land and raise a strong family (in any sense of the word), then it becomes a self-perpetuating and blah blah blah.
It’s not ALL rap, just seems to be the most ubiquitous theme
I just can’t help but give creedence to the theory that big labels push ignorant rap to further push the image of the pimp or picaninny.
And with that said, I’ma go put on some Pimp C, Beeeeeettcchhhh!
Political correctness is fucking great. It might be clumsy, and while it might sometimes give stupid people an excuse to get offended for reasons that really come from their own idiocy, but it’s also the reason that white people can’t go around addressing black people as “nigger” and “boy,” why nobody calls me a halfbreed, why women have to be talked to like they’re actual people, and so forth. And that’s goddamn great, because the distance between what we say and what we think or do is so small, and even now we’re living in a world where people are getting killed just for being black, or Latin, or gay, or Arab.
And I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with jokes and so forth – context is important, my girl calls me a mutt and it’s affectionate, some guy I don’t know calls me a mutt and motherfucker is getting bodied – and I’m not saying anything’s wrong with bitches & hos tracks, which are generally cartoonish and silly and it’s not like we believe Dr. Dre talking shit on The Chronic 2001 when he’d been married since 1996 and so forth.
But we’re talking about real shit here, and there are thousands of women getting abused or worse every fucking day, which is probably part of why most rappers who are trying to seem at all serious keep their pimpery absurd and don’t go past “smack a bitch.”
This shit is speaking approvingly of the long-term, systemic, vicious brutalization of women, and that’s fucked up.
Jesus Christ. It’s just fucking rap music. If you think this is anything other than good music and entertainment than you need to hold the fuck up and start listening to Yanni or Kenny G or something.
And how in the fuck is this song condoning the “long-term systemic brutalization” and abuse of women? Simply because the title and chorus reference Ike Turner? Did you people even listen to the fucking song?
Also, where the fuck were you softhands pussies when Pimp C was telling girls “what the fuck if you didn’t want to fuck get the fuck out of the truck?”
And, really, that’s not a particularly problematic statement, given that he’s complaining about women using him purely for drinks, dro, and fancy cars without any interest in him. You could have at least cited “Bitches Ain’t Shit” or something.
Ike Turner wasn’t a pimp….or was he…. Anyway, Project Pat’s verse was in true Ike Turner fashion considering he was the most direct about beating women.

I’m glad somebody else agrees. I’m not really comfortable with it either, especially since Tina is still alive.

Wonderful rebuttals all around.
Sorry for my slip-up with the rap lyric minutiae. How utterly embarassing.

Do you want me to fuck with the “just entertainment” argument? Because I will, believe, and I don’t have time for that right now.
