Lil B is on an experimental tip, so not everyone’s going to like it. Whatever. He’s not making pop music, or even working within recognizable independent genres.
A lot of rappers are about songcraft and hooks, or about their flow and wordplay, or about a topic like politics or crime, but Lil B’s music is about communication. It’s not about expression in the normal way, the “I contain this feeling and I am going to show it to you” sense. It’s like a meta-communication, right? It’s about how we can get in touch with somebody else’s thoughts.
