Mixtape: Lil B – Based Blunts Vol. 1

Lil B The Based God – Based Blunts Vol. 1 (Cocaineblunts.com, 2009)
You, the reader, asked for a Based Freestyles compilation and now ye shall receive. Cocaineblunts.com is for the people. Next week I’m giving you all free healthcare.
Back in June I had a chance to kick it with The Based God himself. His kitten, Keke, bit my hand while we listened to Nuno Canavarro. I was also passed no less than seven hundred songs and freestyles from the based archives, so this will hopefully be the first in a long series.
Bear in mind that this selection is by no means comprehensive. It is a decent cross section of what he was coming up with, touching everything from gabber freakouts to mellow boom bap. But to become truly based requires full immersion. Drop these 22 tracks into your Lil B playlist and keep prowling the myspaces, hitting Digital Dripped and checking back here for more niceness. Gotta catch ‘em all.
Tracklisting:
1. Theater
2. RumRell
3. Silver Surfer
4. Red Eye Dog
5. Listen To The Beat
6. Toxic Girls
7. Shoot The Bitch Bra
8. Thrift Store
9. Mist Is Green
10. Memories Pt. 1
11. I’m In Space Now
12. Hunned Thousand
13. Lone Ranger
14. I’m A Mechanic
15. High Like A Bitch
16. Sports
17.Running Through Flowers
18.Drifting In The Water
19. Time
20. Lettter To Brandon
21. My Life’s A Dream
22. Bonus Track – Cocaine Blunts (The Dedication)
Though many of these tracks have been exchanging hands via lo-fi myspace rips, they are featured here in 160kbps glory, which is the bitrate that Lil B saves his songs to Itunes in. (The only exception is “Thrift Store,” which was recorded in Mono for some reason. But ask any Beatles fan about that.)

I swear I had just selected the best of the latest based freestyles when I saw this post (for those interested it’s here http://www.corporatebloggin.com/2009/09/mind-is-so-complex-when-youre-based.html )

Lil B keep on keepin on playboy, and i’m right there with you on all the Tesla shit. If you haven’t copped his autobiography “My Inventions” do so now- i got hella books on the man but none compare to the eloquence of the man himself.
September 24th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
checking it out.
September 24th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
yo tho
whats up with the 80kbps? that the original quality?
September 24th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
The amount of energy he puts into every goddamn track is astounding. Even when he’s barely saying anything at all it sounds IMPORTANT, know?
The internet is pretty cool. If this was the 60s this would be the sort of stuff that they’d unearth in crates in his house decades later and everyone would go apeshit over it.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:10 am
“whats up with the 80kbps? that the original quality?”
As I mentioned, everything is at 160 except for “Thrift Store” which B recorded in mono for some reason. Hence, 80kbps, only one channel.
September 25th, 2009 at 11:36 am
sorry for that bit of ignorance.

September 27th, 2009 at 2:45 am

not one bar in this whole shit is even coherent, are you retarded or something? You have nothing to rap about, why even do it? I’ve never deleted a mixtape so fast. Soulja Boy is bout 700 times better than you, i never thought i’d be able to say that to someone. Congratulations.

Why is the video for the Basedworld movie trailer been removed?
PEACE
September 28th, 2009 at 3:53 am
wow @ the “worst mixtape” comment. this is some groundbreaking shit that B is doing,so I guess it only makes sense some folks will hate.. to be fair,i wouldnt classify this as a rap album since there are some songs that are more spoken word than your typical rap delivery. and you got to be kidding when you say that B has nothin to say, B is one of the most refreshing voices in Hip Hop now because he actually DOES have something to say. anyone who can pull off a track like Thrift Store is a genius in my book.
September 28th, 2009 at 10:47 am
It’s like a Daniel Johnston tape.
September 28th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
“It’s like a Daniel Johnston tape”
damn, that’s a serious claim right there. all good, feelin the joints though. any artists who references the east bay vivarium is on it in my book.
September 28th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
“It’s like a Daniel Johnston tape”
I mean it’s got a some of that, right? First thing I thought of when I was listening was actually Jandek. That and Lil’ Wayne’s weirdest shit.
This is experimental shit right here.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:55 am
I don’t know if Johnston or Jandek are accurate points of comparison. Though Brandon’s easily as eccentric as those guys, he’s much more self aware than the former and much less reclusive than the latter.
September 29th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
I’d say there’s something about the intensity, immediacy, and stream-of-consciousness approach that he shares with Jandek.
The reclusiveness is an interesting point… while he’s almost the opposite in terms of accessibility (can’t imagine Jandek with a twitter, though now that I think about it I would follow that), he is still doing something damn unusual as far as distribution goes. Maybe Jandek would do something similar if he’d started now. Cassette tapes and mail orders are out, you know?
September 30th, 2009 at 10:18 am
bless u all more
based coming soon

“AND A SECRETE” – love it
October 1st, 2009 at 10:19 am
Glad you appreciated Jandek, Lil B – I’m the guy who’s writing his “fictitious biography,” so it’s cool to see any love in his direction. He’s really not as “secrete – ive” as you might think. You should see a show the next time he’s in NYC (he’ll be back in Manhattan soon, I think). I’ve also been playing your mixtape for a week now and love it. It’s like nothing else I’ve heard this year. Can’t wait to hear more. Thanks!

October 1st, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Fictitious biography? What’s the scheme there?
October 1st, 2009 at 4:44 pm
Basically, since Jandek didn’t want to tell his story, I came up with the idea of pooling his albums together and creating a novel out of them. A small version of that came out in 2006, and the complete version is due, uh, this month actually but won’t REALLY be out until next year. You can keep track of it through my publisher if you like: http://www.halfcutpublications. The idea has been approved by Corwood and he’s been 100% supportive of the drafts throught the last four years – wonderful guy. I had the pleasure of hosting him in Denver last year for his show here. Great stuff.
For what it’s worth, I’m going to send him a copy of Lil B’s mixtape. He’ll get a kick out of it.
October 1st, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Sorry, the address is http://www.halfcutpublications.com. I’ll see you on twitter, Lil’ B. Exciting to meet you: great stuff.
October 1st, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Oh, and finally: by “Corwood” I mean the organization that releases on Jandek music and sends a “representative” to each Jandek concert to represent Jandek, who of course cannot be known or seen by anybody. Uh hum. “Jandek,” in actuality, is whatever musicians are on stage at any concert, or appear on any Jandek release. The fact that one guy (who shall remain unnamed but which can be found all over) is on all of these releases, at all of these shows, and is obviously the guy in all the pictures, however, is more than just a little coincidental, but still does not mean his IS Jandek.
October 1st, 2009 at 11:25 pm
That is a goddamn excellent idea.
Also, I would like to go on record as being the first person to suggest a Lil’ B/Jandek collaboration.

October 5th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Seriously, Lil B’ – I’ll talk to the man from Corwood. I’ll let you know what he thinks. It would be something awesome.
Axl I can’t help you with…I find Jandek far less reclusive, and anyway his new music’s better.
October 6th, 2009 at 12:54 am
Wondering: Who did the beats on this tape? Does Lil’ B produce himself? Seems reasonable what with the number of songs he’s done and all.
October 6th, 2009 at 8:45 am
iv done 730 songs
October 6th, 2009 at 10:53 am
“iv done 730 songs”

“howisya
maybe he’s not counting the ones where he’s just talking over boards of canada”
bwah-haha.
In all seriousness, I have no fucking clue what you people praising this are on. Me and my buddies created more compelling music recording ourselves freestyle in the throws of alcoholism.
Granted, he has a good ear for beats. But, to me, this only qualifies as narcissitic tripe. I would only listen to this a second time if I was in a frat with this guy or something, and he was forcing me to listen to a CD-R in his car when he was driving me to get cigarettes or something.
Unless this is some Andy Kaufman shit. To which I say, I never really thought Andy Kaufman was all that clever either.
Carry on.
