Mixtape: B.O.B. – Should Have Been The Album ++

B.O.B. f/ Wes Fif – “Haters (Original Mix)”
B.O.B. f/ Lil Boosie & DG Yola – “Fuck You”
B.O.B. f/ Willie Joe – “Little Rascals”
B.O.B. – “Atlanta, GA”
B.O.B. – “Gangsta”
from Various Mixtapes (2007-2008)
Shake at 2DBz has put up a nice little compilation of early B.O.B. tracks. The selection leans a little towards the Bobby Dre 3k we are the world tip, but it’s good to finally grab high quality rips of earlier actual rap jams like “Hip Hop Ain’t Dead” and “Daddy.” The premise that B.O.B. has already made something close to a classic album across his handful of mixtapes is spot on. As an added bonus, I’ve re-upped some supplemental mixtape era loosies. Each track is CDQ, NODJ, all that.
Shake says: “Word is [Atlantic] really like[s] B.o.B but are trying to force him into a 360 deal. And if he doesn’t conform, they are gonna shelve him.” This seems like a cute starving artist story but its probably just not true. Something tells me if/when B.O.B. makes a significant hit, they’ll have an album on the schedule in a matter of weeks. Then again they wouldn’t have that problem had they given “Cloud 9″ the proper push in the first place.

Where in thee FUCK is “Life of Sin”? How does one make a best-of-B.o.B. tape without it? Far and away the best B.o.B. track, say I. That track alone would stand the test of time even if he’d never recorded another. Unimproveable.

i remember hearing the original mix of “haterz” – the kid who played it for me was doing promo work for wes fif, trying to get his mixtape heard. my boy dj nappy was like “it has some cat Bob on it”… i was like who the fuck is bob? then the XXL Mag piece came later, and I was like wow, where’d wes fif go? lol

Agreed. To chastise Atlantic by saying had they given better support dude may have made a classic already is one thing, he certainly has potential but B.O.B. has yet to prove himself as far as making a classic record.

the thing about bob that separates him from blog rappers is that instead of being some ego-driven dbag consciously trying to build this image of being an alternative, creative type (like kid cudi and chamilton) he’s just a dude from the hood who happens to be making an honest effort to be creative, through his music. he doesn’t have trendy animators do his videos or try to coin any new fashion style. his approach to music seems far more genuine to me than most blog rappers. not to mention he simply makes better music than them
