X-Con – “Caught Up

X-Con f/ 1 Luv – “Dirty Life

X-Con f/ UGK – “Mighty Dollar

from Dirty Life (First String/Elektra Unreleased, 2000)

X-Con was a rapper from Miami that I am going to lazily compare to Trick Daddy. He was signed to Elektra for about three minutes near the turn of the century and his “Woah Lil Mama” got some minor Rap City/Box burn but the album, Dirty Life was eventually shelved. The Miami New Times called it “The Best Rap Album You Never Heard.” I certainly would not agree, but then I’ve heard a lot of rap albums The Miami New Times probably has never heard. Still there are a few solid country rap tunes here and it’s unavailable elsewhere on the internet. UGK turn up for “Mighty Dollar,” which is why I tracked down a copy in the first place.

Reminds me of that Rated R (also from florida, right?) joint about the club from around the same time.

ha. i actually interviewed this guy when i was on college radio. and i did hear this album becaue i was a college intern promotional represenative or whatever for elektra at the time. its not the best album i EVER heard either. hahaha. there was a x-rated version of the “Whoa Lil Mama” video too. if i remember correctly…it was Tip Drill before Tip Drill

i think he wound up going back to Con status not too long after the album was shelved.

JT Money was eventually added to “Hop” but he’s not on my copy. Otherwise it’s just a few unknowns, including members of the incredibly named AWETOPSY. http://www.myspace.com/awetopsy305

I actually just picked up 3re’s second album. It’s all right, but I was hoping for some Pimp/Bun guest spots–Bun is technically on “Affiliation II”, but that’s just a rehash of the intro on the first “Affiliation” on their first album.

Like Superb said though, Pimp has like three or four beats on there, so that’s something at least.
