Omid – We Came From Beyond Mix 7/19/09 (KXLU 88.9)
Omid just sent over this mix he put together while filling in for Mike Nardone’s legendary We Came From Beyond show on Sunday night. True to form the LA producer drops a pretty incredible set, most notably rocking a gang of Project Blowed/Goodlife rarities towards the beginning – elusive demos from MC Aces (Spoon, Aceyalone & Mikah 9’s pre-Fellowship group) and the Nonce (then the Populist Division), old GL live recordings, remixes and much more. I haven’t even made it through the whole mix yet, but I am in awe of the first hour or so.
And for those who missed it, Omid also left a very promising comment here a few weeks back announcing Spoon’s long awaited debut album:
“Thank you for posting about Spoon. After being a fan for 16 years of Spoon and collaborating with him twice, I am glad to report that we will be doing a full length album. He finally revealed all his ideas and concepts and he is officially my favorite mc, musician, beat boxer, human instrument, i promise you the album will be on another level, even compared to “style messiah” and all that, that’s just a taste of what he’s got! it’ll take a minute to complete but i promise it’ll be worth the wait! tentative title

in the second half they play a lot of poor righteous teachers and big lurch and that willie d/pimp c song. i do love this mix. it reminds me of my old radio show, except good.

Dope as hell. PRT always bring back that 1990 feeling when all was good with the hip-hop world. Yeah would love to hear those shows too.

Just listened to the mix again today and I’m a little bit confused about the 13th minute.
Can it be, that Kool Keith appears within the MC Aces mix rapping “The earth is gonna crushing day”? If so, it would be a great surprise…
I also have another question:
Why is Spoon is calling himself Spoon (of Iodine)?
Has he been a member of a group called “Iodine”?
