Yeeeah! Thanks for this rundown. As to the Kobe/Lebron shit, I don’t think it has anything to do with the beef, I think it has to do with coke prices. And wasn’t there a Jeezy diss on Writing on the Wall, too (on Gucci Montana, I think)? Anyway, great history lesson.
June 17th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
Haha, I hope they ain’t comparin’ themselves to Kobe and Lebron… cause they DEF ain’t the kobe and lebron of the rap game and if they think they are their ego’s are far more inflated than I first thought.
June 17th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Another question about that hook: how did jeezy’s coke prices go from 17.5 to 24 to 23?
June 17th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Noz i love this site to death but you did forget a couple shots on that writing on the wall especially the “jay z wheres my finders fee” line.
Oh and nico thanks for your contribution to the discourse. I couldnt mean that less.
June 17th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Right “Last Time I Checked” was a major oversight. Upping it now.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
“Last Time I Checked,” that’s what I was talking about.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
“Another question about that hook: how did jeezy’s coke prices go from 17.5 to 24 to 23?”
^^ Maybe Jeezy is feeling the pinch of the shitty economy too, lmao.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Either that or he felt exposed by Pimp C’s comments. I asked myself the same question anyway.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
^oo what did Pimp C say?! [said]
When I heard the Kobe/Lebron comparison; I think they Jeezy was comparing himself to Kobe: as in being in the league “game” longer, established, ect…Def Jam Label. Then he compares Gucci to Lebron: younger kid just got in the game, learning the ropes, ect…
like homeboy said them niggas feeling themselves too much! I mean I jam both of them but for God’s sakes they just rap about COCAINE. Its Cocaine Rap; its not that profound!! Its cute with the little punchlines and shit but come on!!!! How many times have Cocaine Rap been around? Ice T, Too Short, ect….
I aint hating the niggas but same shit different era, different reigon.
OK so we supposed to get wet over these niggas ‘beefing’ ? nowhere near the Pac/Biggie beef. These niggas need something else better to do.
*holds head* when has rap come to this?! :/
June 17th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
glad i’m not the only one confused by the kobe/lebron analogy. i thought it might be coke prices, but this is mr. 17.5 we’re talking, right? unless the pimp c comments made him changes his tune…

The Kobe, Lebron analogy is talkin’ about coke prices. But different sizes. 17.5 is a brick. 23/24 is a brick and a half. Now as to the whole beef, honestly, If yall rly listened to “The Recession”, Jeezy was airing Gucci out left and right. Jeezy is and will forever be a better rapper that Gucci. All Gucci talks about is coke, jewelry, and money. Im not gon’ lie, I bump the shit out Gucci, but he can’t actually rap. Jeezy is one of my favorites and “Thug Motivation 103″ is gonna shut shit down.
-oh and by the way, this whole beef started because Gucci didn’t wanna pay Jeezy his money for “So Icey”. When Jeezy made the song hot, seems to me like a little bitchassness. And does anyone else notice how Gucci uses almost all of Jeezy’s old ad-libs.
June 17th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
“Im not gon’ lie, I bump the shit out Gucci, but he can’t actually rap.”
a lot of ppl who like gucci keep saying this & i dont get it at all. gucci is so much more of a lyricist than jeezy even if jeezy has broader topicality
June 17th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Great rundown of the feud. On the 19th Jeezy and Gucci are both preforming at Super Jam down here in Greensboro, North Cackalacka; should be entertaining to see what (if anything) transpires…

@ Mr. Montaug
They’re both performing at Birthday Bash here in the A on the 20th. I’m wondering how this shit is gonna play out too…especially here in Atlanta. Jeezy has to perform the song at Birthday Bash because both of them represent this city. I wonder if either of these cats will be clever enough to expose someone on that “summerjam screen” ala Jay Z.
Oh and I see you up there in the 336. I was born and raised in that area of North Cack. My lil sis was about to sell her superjam tickets but now she’s going and is all hype to see how this gucci v. jeezy shit goes down.
June 17th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
David, are yu dumb.?
Dumb David.
Gucci, a lyricist.?????
that’s like sayin’ Lupe Fiasco is a gangster rapper.
Not gonna happen.

noz nicely done, can we get the unabridged when you get the chance
June 17th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
i think the kobe lebron stuff is saying gucci is like the little kid in the commercial who is on both lebron and kobes dick
June 17th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
hey dumbass he talking about prices ed kobe 24 racks lebron 23 racks you can be a corporate thug im disappointed at that ed ozonemag
June 17th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Oh. I’ll tell Ed that.
June 17th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
David’s right. Gucci is a MUCH better rapper than Jeezy. His wit and flow shit on Jeezy, and he’s far more articulate with structuring songs.
Jeezy has more subject matter, but he can’t write lyrics as well as Gucci. And I’m a big fan of both.
June 17th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
WHY CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET A BONG?
June 17th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
Gucci has improved a lot too, this audio is a testament to that. Comparatively Jeezy has just been treading water. (Treading over the right production but whatever.)
June 17th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
i think jeezys made some smart & inspired choices musically tho, like he may have plateaued but he def aint fallen off
June 17th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
I think Jeezy’s improved too, honestly. He first started changing his rapping style on that USDA album (especially on the track Corporate Thuggin’), and he’s found a way to incorporate more into his simple style of rhyming. Plus he’s branched a bit into more ‘conscious’ topics. Like the Recession. Which he only rapped about once on the Recession, in the title track, called the Recession. Okay, he really isn’t that varied in topics, but he is a little bit more than Gucci.
Obviously Gucci’s improved far more. He’s no where near the slow, yet humorous rapper he was when I got into him. he’s become a full-fledged beast.
June 17th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
He rapped about the recession on more than just the title track “Circulate” immediately comes to mind.
June 18th, 2009 at 12:01 am
I suppose I was being a little ignorant when I said that, that album still bumped. It just upsets me how so many people, people that used to treat jeezy like they treat Gucci now, only hopped on the Jeezy bandwagon after The Recession, because they thought him touching on the economy made it acceptable for their ignorant asses to finally listen to him.
June 18th, 2009 at 12:25 am
“Jeezy couldn’t make a hit with a Louisville Slugger.”
I’ve never really gotten disses that are patently nonsensical. He put this out at the time of Soul Survivor? When his biggest hit was So Icey? This is like if Nas accused Jay of wearing fake jewelry. Other than that, this latest Jeezy diss sucks, and yes, Gucci has surpassed Jeezy as a rapper. By a long way.
June 18th, 2009 at 1:28 am
hopped on the Jeezy bandwagon after The Recession, because they thought him touching on the economy made it acceptable for their ignorant asses to finally listen to him.
^^eh…people hopped on it because it was a good ass album–fire beats and he stepped up the lyricalism of his raps. he could have talked about some other shit and if he did it as well he still would have gained new fans. the people who weren’t into jeezy beforehand were weary of his flow. as in his ability to cohesively put together words that rhymed with an intricate pattern while maintaining some sense of a storyline, topic etc. before he dropped “the recession” i was starting to think he fell off because i missed the “trap or die” mixtape era jeezy. fortunately he redeemed himself with “the recession” which allowed him to gain new fans because of his lyrical progression as an artist and maintain his old fans by still staying true to his core–dope beats, witty catchphrases and etc.
June 18th, 2009 at 3:12 am
Thanks for clarifying this “Kobe/Lebron” mess, because I was confused. Still not sure if it’s coke prices or who’s been in the game longer, but prolly coke since that’s what most of the comments keep saying?
@ ItsMil I keep telling people about the whole “So Icey” drama and they give me blank face – thanks for saying it again.
I have to say that while Gucci is less terrible than the “So Icey” days, it’s a mean stretch to say that he’s lyrical- just like I told ATL’s DJ Holiday. Matter of fact, I laughed at him when he said “I think Gucci is very lyrical”- I’m sorry, but the rap journo snob in me just oozed out. Still, Jeezy was pretty simple lyrically when he first dropped, but he’s gotten much better and I agree with Noz that he’s already had a great selection of beats – though he’s yet to figure out how to make a chick song, but that’s another post.
All that said, I just hope all these disses don’t end up in ANOTHER body. It’s a recession (no Jeezy) we have enough problems…
June 18th, 2009 at 4:13 am
“before he dropped “the recession” i was starting to think he fell off because i missed the “trap or die” mixtape era jeezy.”

the definition of 24, 23 is really deep, this is what i got from the other blog sites:
i used to pay Kobe, who is on the LA Lakers, which correlates to L.A. Reid of Island Def Jam. now he pays Lebron, who is on the Cavs, which correlates to Jay-Z, because of Jay-Z’s apparent liking of the player, who recently has his own label, Roc Nation.
it’s something across those lines, aside that, it has other meaning to it. but don’t get it misconstrued, he’s definitely not talking his selling prices, lol.
June 18th, 2009 at 5:23 am
notice how Young Jeezy came out with one real freestyle to debilitate Gucci Mane’s career whereas Gucci Mane has came out with about 7. I find it quite hilarious when i see the GM fans trying to say he is more relevant than Young Jeezy. It’s clear and apparent to see that Young Jeezy has much better quality lyricism, flow, style, etc.
I understand he’s “cocaine rap” and so is GM but it’s foolish & naive to believe that GM has a better track record than Young Jeezy.

June 18th, 2009 at 8:51 am
I appreciate that you’re trying to keep it about music, but the fact that Jeezy sent somebody to rob Gucci + Gucci killed him and beat the case means that Gucci won in the streets. No diss track is gonna change that. Rap-wise, Jeezy’s position is solid, he ain’t going anywhere. But Gucci is way more creative, has more styles, is the hottest our right now. Together they’ve got some of the best adlibs going..
June 18th, 2009 at 9:11 am
“I’ve never really gotten disses that are patently nonsensical. He put this out at the time of Soul Survivor? When his biggest hit was So Icey?”
“Round 1″ predates “Soul Survivor,” iirc.
June 18th, 2009 at 9:13 am
said i used to pay kobe now i pay lebron
He used to pay 24,000 for a kilo now he pays 23….simple
June 18th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Yeah you might want to catch up on that.
^^Nah no need for me to catch up. I was a big fan of Jeezy before he dropped his first album and blew up. I was definitely feeling the mixtapes before Thug Motivation 101, enjoyed TM101, and I fucked with The Inspiration just not as much as hard as I fucked with his previous stuff. I like my rappers to sound hungry and he didn’t sound quite as hungry on The Inspiration to me. Doesn’t mean the album wasn’t good, just not as good. He definitely came with it on The Recession though.
June 18th, 2009 at 10:02 am
Awesome post. But doesn’t this gloss over the “justifiable homicide” that came out of their beef? That shit was ugly.
June 18th, 2009 at 10:44 am

@ Doczeus: Exactly. Somebody understands.
listen, point blank period, Until Gucci can put together an album that’s about half as good as:
-Thug Motivation 101
-The Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102
-The Recession
or the highly anticipated…
-Thug Motivation 103
he’ll still nothing but a mixtape artist who waste’s record label’s money by tryin to put an album together.

These sort of slip ups are stupid but not really uncommon in hip hop. Think C-Double-O-M-O-N. or Warren “What’s N-X-E-T?” G.

@noz gucci recorded that and about 7 other “6 minute freestyle” style songs at my studio for Chicken Talk. He came out the booth and was like “damn…I didn’t even know I was gonna say that.” So I told him we wouldn’t use it due to the fact that he dissed everyone he could think of for no apparent reason. lol

uhhhh no this was before he had any hits that werent ‘so icey’ & in case you didnt notice ‘so icy’ was a gucci song??? that he wouldnt give jeezy permission to use on his album. jeezy was mad at that, bcuz he was signed to def jam but his only hit single was gucci’s
gucci was wrong but at the time it seemed reasonable enough, and it really points to how much of a well-rounded artist gucci is that he sees that hooks actually mean something. jeezy has a much more narrow style … jeezy vs. gucci would be like comparing freeway to biggie, freeway’s totally talented but his lane is much narrower (tho obv i would say jeezy’s better than freeway & biggie better than gucci but bear with me)

Gucci is gettin good. I listen to both of them. Jeezy is better if u consider the albums, clothing line, endorsements, etc. Gucci Mane will start to have good albums tho. Gucci albums were tossed out there by Big Cat, who GM dissed, so the recent tossed album Big Cat has did-Murder was The Caase- wasn’t offially something gucci mane wanted out. That also has a diss on it. ” Young Jeezy there’s a bullet wit ya name on it.” I do believe Gucci Mane’s offical album will sale.

All of those disses are also from Gucci, “Round 1″ he put that out first before Jeezy came wit “Stay Strapped” (Freestyle). Gucci also disses Jeezy in his new mixtape wit Drama “The Movie, Part 2 (Gangsta Grillz – The Sequal)”. Listen to “Hottest Rapper”, “Alot”, “Superhero”, especially “Awsome” in his second verse, “Burr”, and “Loud”. Black Magik, OX, and Young Snead dissesd Jeezy in Magik’s mixtape Street Certified, Vol. 2″ back in 05. Jeezy responed to Gucci on a track called “A-Town Summer” on Slick Pulla’s “4th Ward Day” mixtape back in 05.

Jeezy will always be a better rapper than gucci hands down. Jeezy made Gucci, when he was down he did so icy to get up. When he was down AGAIN he went BACK to jeezy for a remix. Gucci stealing all his ad libs. Tm 103 almost out and now Gucci back down. Nah thats some pussy shit. Young got real songs and real albums and a real life. Gucci got a break and took advantage. Yeah he hard as fuck but he aint tru as fuck

Jeezy could never be what gucci is. Jeezy got favors from og’s now currently in the pen and he burned a lot of bridges to go plat but lyrically gucci is just all around better and in gucci words “if ya gonna talk about it then be about it” jeezy is the white mans puppet gucci is his own man. Jeezy just wants to sell records! Gucci will put a bullet in your face and laugh about it in his next video who’s the G?!?
