Rick Ross f/ Foxy Brown – “Murda Mami“
from Deeper Than Rap (Def Jam, 2009)
Foxy Brown – “Magnetic“
from Ill Na Na 2: The Fever (Def Jam Unreleased, 2002)
There is something vintage Foxy about “Murder Mami”. It’s the type of cross gender heist track that could’ve been on a late 90s Jay-Z record. Except with worse rapping from the y-chromosome holder, of course. And, on first listen, it’s sounding like one of the few actual highlights on Deeper Than Rap, the rest of the album being a frustratingly polished and calculated affair in the American Gangster mold. (It’s depressing how easily my peers are impressed by simple competence. Stop waiting for major labels to send you promos and go find some great underground rap.)
Really I just think this photo is fantastic and frightening.
For a bonus beat here’s the last good Foxy Brown record. “Magnetic”, from the scrapped Ill Na Na 2, finds Inga doing her best Big Daddy Kane impression over a Neptunes beat.

hey man,
I agree and dissagree, i really like ‘deeper than rap’ my only comment is as much as i like it, it needs to get out of landing gear, it doesnt have the bigger club tracks of the last album, but still its a good listen but just a little too melow. I actually am not really feeling the foxy brown track, i agree totally about ‘worse rapping’ comment. The track with nas is actually quite good, i expected that to be terrible as NAS these days bores me.
