Earthquakes From The Garden State

Blvd. Mosse – “Earthquakes From The Garden

Blvd. Mosse – “Hit ‘Em Wit The 1,2

(Unreleased, 199?)

More unreleased Tony D today, here alongside fellow Trentonians Outstanding, Plexx and DJL. Collectively Blvd. Mosse, they dropped a pair of great 12″s on Scorpio in 1990 and then disappeared from the public eye, but continuned to record. Where those 12″s were closer to the reggae inspired sound of their peers PRT, these later tracks find them moving in a jazzier direction. Think maybe a less timid Digable.

Years ago Tony had mentioned plans to do a full 12″ pressing of these tracks, but that obviously never came to fruition. It would be nice if a legitimate record label got in there and did a proper compilation on the many tracks that he has in his vaults. He had been doing homeburnt CDrs for a while, but some of these tracks probably deserve a more permanent medium.

  3. word up to the Mosse. Plexxx and I lived on the same block in Trenton when I was older… worked at the same spot, too. He still does ill blend tapes, mostly of more popular r&b and hip-hop.

those are really SUPER DOPE! thanks for showing me another unknown gem, noz.

  5. Man, man, man. I remember the feeling when they came out. It felt like freedom. Like anybody was welcome in hip hop. I grew in New Orleans and everything we listened to was gangsta shit out of the west and south: Too Short, Spice 1, NWA, Ron C, Geto Boys etc. Then bounce hit and it was all about fighting, fucking, and smoking weed. Then De La Soul and Poor Righteous Teachers hit and it was like, damn I can be myself and talk deep shit? Niggaz in mental prison now and don’t even know it. We got way more tools and know less to do with it. We need somebody to hit on some whole other shit today.

I don’t know Noz, Soul-Sides.com had this up about a year and a half ago. I prefer your self-aggrandizing when you are railing against the status quo, not putting yourself at the forefront of some ‘hip-hop history accountability’ cause on the inter-webs.

This is in response to the De La psk, sorry for putting it in the wrong place, my bad.
