Bounce

FM – “Gimme What You Got (For A Pork Chop)
from Gimme What You Got 12″ (Avenue, 199?)
Black Menace – “Going Off pt. 2
from s/t EP (Precise, 1992)

Here’s a quick pair of bounce cuts someone on the board requested.

FM aka Freakmaster is a Memphis rapper making NO styled bounce (anybody know other bounce records recorded outside of new orleans?). “Gimme What You Got” is his response to DJ Jimi’s “Where Dey At?” aping the cut down to the triggerman bones while he calls on the women to “suck a n*gga dick for a pork chop.” This sentiment resonated with many, including chingy, apparently. Currently FM runs and dj’s at ugradio.com.

Also a short early joint from NO legends J-Dawg & Threat, collectively Black Menace. “Going Off Pt. 2″ is triggerman meets mama feelgood But what’s crazy is that each rapper delivers a different verse simultaneously in separate speakers. Black Menace later signed with Big Boy (also the original home to Mystikal and recent Rap-A-Lot signees Partners-N-Crime) where they released the very dope Drama Time.

  3. Scott Says:

Nice post. I don’t know if “Gimme What You Got” was an answer cut or just a straight rip-off of “Where Dey At?”, but apparently it was a big hit. Funny how the rest of FM’s 1992 album sounded nothing like this one….I guess bounce only had an extended life in NO.

  4. SLurg Says:

Going Off Pt. 2 was not the first song to have rappers doing different verses simultaneously, you should remember Request Line by Rock Master Scott & The Dynamic Three from 1984, where three MC are rhyming at the same time.

  5. noz Says:

scott – the reason i consider it a response is the “this ain’t jimi…” line. and i think that record predated the rest of the album by a bit which is why it sounds so different (it was on avenue, jimi’s label, which i guess supports your rip off theory).

slurg – you’re right i totally forgot about request line, but that’s for just a few unlistenable bars and they aren’t split into seperate channels. i think it was more of a joke than an attempt to sustain a full song that way. but both tracks probably do draw from that now that i think about it.

  6. Lokee Says:

Man, i aint never think I would see a shout out to bounce. But what about all the real rappers reppin NO that wasnt bouncing? Lokee, UNLV, G Slimm, Fiend, Skull Duggery, Magnolia Slimm, Kangol Slimm. Back in the day them folks wasnt nothing to fuck with.

  12. rexisaplace Says:

noz- i had heard the drag rap previously…for some reason i thought it was going to be some type of mardi gras anthem as much as it is sampled down there. good looking though.

  13. noz Says:

nah rex it’s actually a new york record.

  14. Joey Says:

hey any way you could re-up that FM track gimme what ya got??

  15. Joey Says:

one other thing too.. who sang that song that had something like in DJ Jimis song Bounce (For the Juvenile) but it was like.. something wit “…popeyes i want a 3 peice white a small cold drink some red beans a biscuit a small fry”

  16. OneShySistah Says:

DJ Jimi’s Bounce (for the Juvenile) was actually performed by Juvenile…yes, the same Juvenile that has hits today like Back That Ass Up ..same Juve…I say it’s him before puberty, but it’s still a hot joint.

How about a re-up on the Gimme What You Got and Going Off for someone who has no luck getting those songs elsewhere? Plz?

  17. Kid Slizzard Says:
