Going Platinum This Time

Truth be told, Let The Truth Be Told is the readers favorite Z-Ro album. With Crack and Look What You Did To Me vying for a close second and third. As a few fruitflies mentioned, the earlier, pre-Rap-A-Lot releases likely got fewer votes because they didn’t get as much publicity or weren’t as polished. That being said, the top four albums are fairly representative of his best work, I think. Truth Be Told is definitely his most consistent, for those of you who have yet to jump into his catalog…
This weeks poll is about albums that are never dropping. Full Z-Ro results after the jump.
* Let The Truth Be Told (26%, 44 Votes)
* Crack (22%, 36 Votes)
* Look What You Did To Me (20%, 34 Votes)
* I’m Still Livin (11%, 19 Votes)
* The Life Of Joseph W. McVey (10%, 16 Votes)
* King Of Da Ghetto (7%, 11 Votes)
* Z-Ro Vs. The World (4%, 7 Votes)
* Z-Ro (0%, 0 Votes)

let the truth be told is the best album..
i think the results would have been different if you could rank the albums, and not only vote for the best one.. crack would have been further down and the older albums further up..

in regards to the poll, what about 10 the Hard Way? also, i feel like hov’s ego is too strong to keep his album in the vaults.
February 2nd, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Hey MaynHolUp, do you happen to have the original version of The Mule? I remember hearing one on wordofsouth.com that I liked a lot better than the album version.
Also, does anyone want to play the “southern rappers whose entire careers you’d trade for the new Raekwon song” game? I nominate Gucci Gucci and Boosie Bossie.
February 2nd, 2009 at 3:34 pm

I think 50, Jay and Big Boi will actually drop those albums, although I’m less sure of Big Boi than anyone else. Jay has too much shit already done to not put out some shitty full-length, and 50 needs the money, what little he’ll get for another downward slide into irrelevancy. Thanks to noz and maynholup! for schooling me to the good Z-Ro. Btw, I bump that “Best of ‘Ro” mix you made every coupla days.

Tray – The original 12″ version of “The Mule” opens with a long guitar solo and doesn’t have the second ro verse. I will rip it sometime.
TSF – I think Jay is too obsessed with his legacy to just drop an album like that. Even if it’s some bullshit like AG he is going to be sure to present as some sort of grand conceptual triumph. And probably tie it into an axe body spay campaign or something.

REALLY surprised to see Crack get so many votes. I didn’t even think that album was that hyped, but judging by this poll it was a LOT of people’s first Z-Ro album. It’s a good one, though. “Look What You Did” is still his most consistent by a mile, but Truth is almost pure dopeness for sure.
As for the poll, it’s gotta be either Jay or 50 who wins. Neither of those dudes have ever been one to pull the “hype an album then never release it” game. My prediction is that Jay’s album will be out by June at the absolute latest, whereas 50’s will probably come out toward the end of the year, so I voted for Jigga. Also, his album will probably actually be good.
Did you blog about K-Rino’s “The BLood Doctrine”? That was one of the dopest of last year.. Dude released FOUR (?!) albums in a year and dropped the dopest one right at the end. These Houston vets seem to be holding it down like crazy lately.

“Tray
Also, does anyone want to play the “southern rappers whose entire careers you’d trade for the new Raekwon song” game? I nominate Gucci Gucci and Boosie Bossie.”
this is some ignorant shit
February 2nd, 2009 at 6:19 pm
i love raekwon but come on, gucci & boosie are top 5 alive right now
anyway the original ‘the mule’ also had different drums, its that same break from ‘tried by 12′ isnt it?? or something i forget, its on my old computer
February 2nd, 2009 at 8:48 pm
I listen to z-ro since “let the truth be told” and i voted for “crack” because it has the best production. It fits his “emo side” better than on any other album.
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:07 pm
ya’ll are about some dumb fucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Z-ro VS the world is way harder than anything since he signed to swisherhouse. i mean rap a lot. SUC 4 life
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:09 pm
sunday morning pulling out my bitch i’m looking good!
nothing but diamonds round my neck and around my wrist i’m looking good.
February 2nd, 2009 at 11:17 pm
I’m surprised that anyone has even voted for Detox. I’m banking on it taking the longest of this list.
February 3rd, 2009 at 12:46 am
going out on a limb & voting rae btw
February 3rd, 2009 at 8:32 am
This is some funny shit. All these dudes talking hard about Z-Ro and yet Let The Truth is wet as fuck. You listen to the tight Mo City Don and the donkey cock amusement that is The Mule and you think you’re in for a treat but what follows are 15 cheesy hooked rap ballads. Jesus, even Ashanti’s on it for fuck’s sake. And there’s a song called Auntie & Grandma. As if songs about mamas weren’t bad enough
Yeah I know, I’m a faggot and you’ve already put the clip in.
February 3rd, 2009 at 9:55 am
^I’m not going to go so far as to co-sign this but things are definitely getting out of hand.
February 3rd, 2009 at 10:10 am
Raekwon’s dropping a lot of shit supposedly off Linx 2 lately, so I voted for it. However, I’m pretty confident that Jay, 50, and Big Boi will drop eventually. Dre, I don’t even care.
February 3rd, 2009 at 10:53 am
saying you don’t care about Detox is ignorant.
BP3, I don’t even care.
if nothing else, 50 Cent puts sh*t out. it’s not always great, but he puts it out. so i voted for him. AND based on the freestyles and whatnot he’s been dropping lately (and that 80s funk mixtape he did last year), i think i may actually like parts of BISD. (but that Primo joint was awful!)
February 3rd, 2009 at 11:39 am
what is the 80’s funk mixtape he did last year ?
February 3rd, 2009 at 12:48 pm
okay, “80 funk mixtape” was lazy. it’s more 70s disco, and some 80s soul/funk…whatever:

February 3rd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
was Tolerance by Z-Ro and Daz official that had some dope tracks
February 3rd, 2009 at 5:34 pm
what was trae the truth’s best album?
and forget platinum, it’s not a reality! he doesn’t have mass appeal that you need these days for that plaque. but will this really be his best? the last two were surprisingly trill. and i only say surprisingly cuz i got them and expected nothing.
February 4th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
The Life Of Joseph W. McVey only 5th?
that album doesn’t have one weak song on it.
and Mike Dean almost produced the whole thing…mayne!
February 5th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
The best album by either Ro or Trae is Guerilla Maab’s Rise. Dougie D ain’t no slouch either.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:40 am
That Primo joint is fire, wtf. Thrown together though it is. Keep listening to it. Or do what the title says (n/homophobia)
February 9th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
^^ the is beat only gets less interesting with repeated listening. 50’s verses are good but his chorus makes me cringe with that fake accent.
call me a perfectionist.
