The Most Beautifullest

Keefy Keef – “Cause I’m Keefy Keef
from Three’s Company 12″ (GMV, 1992)

I think one of the biggest perks of the ‘random rap’ phenomenon is digging up early, unknown cuts from artists who later became established hip hop heavyweights. Keefy Keef, for example is the original alias of Def/Hit Squad affiliate Keith Murray, before becoming the most beautifullest thing in the world and well before the jailtime and the alleged choking incident killed what was left of his career (for more details on that check this post-Def Jam video interview with Keith)

Although his major label debut saw a smoother, fully modernized style, as Keefy Keef he was dropping nothing but late 80’s inspired grimey, underground shit, thanks in part to having one time JVC Force DJ Curt Cazal behind the boards. I’m not completely feeling the posse cut on the A-Side (although it must have been comped/on a mixtape somewhere, judging by how many want lists it shows up on), but the B-Side, “Cause I’m Keefy Keef” is straight fire.

And no, this 12″ is NOT for sale. Sorry to you Japanese/European heads who are frantically writing an email proposal as we speak. But I do have some other nice indie rap 12″s up on ebay – Sparrow (so hot right now!), Labtekwon (who incidentally is putting on a free, painfully under-publicized concert for WRGW in DC tonight), Unique (EDANFASTRAPRARE!!!!), Ministers of Black (slept on trenton/tony d shit) and more.

Yeah this nice. None of that hyper-thesaurusized style he put down on Hostile though! Not even a smidgen of that style on here I guess he smoked one bag before breakfast in these days.

Yeah I feel ya on this, someone needs to post some DMX material before he got on board Def Jam and changed his whole style and voice like the single “Born Loser” produced by Dr. Seuss that he dropped on Columbia Records in ‘93 or even his infamous demo, which is really dope and completely different from the DMX we know now, he was doing his thing with Ruff Ryders back in the early 90’s for sure…

btw. that Keith Murray joint is hot, but he shined on “The Most Beautifullest Thing”…

i have born loser and was planning on posting it in this “series”, but what’s the deal with this demo? who got the hook up? i’m intrigued, to say the least.

Thats a dope beat very reminiscent of the 45 king…Keefy Keef? sounds like he’s got a speech impediment !
Keith Murray was the better choice in name still a dope tune…can you send me the label scan run our groove etchings detailed description …jus kiddin’ mate!

The Keefy Keef A-side, Three’s Company, was on the Muro/K-Prince WKOD double mixtape CD. Hence, it is on every Japanese want list and will go for several thousand dollars when a copy finally finds it way to ebay. So if Noz wants to retire….

As for DMX, I would also like info from MAAD or anyone else on this demo. Born Loser is dope, but I was alos feeling that indy 12″ from 1995 (”Make A Move” or something like that) with “Niggaz Can’t Touch Me Kid” on the b-side. That was a nice cut.

that beat is dope…the track is a lil long, but I’d LOVE TO HAVE THIS ON WAX! :)
    respect on a tight site.

  10. MAAD Says:

The first song on his Demo Tape was the song where he shouts out every block in Yonkers, it had a nice beat to it and there were others including the singles he used to play at gigs, can’t recall them, but a friend of mine had a dub of his demo and real fans of his should have his earlier stuff, I might be able to get a hold of it if I ask around, I’ll try…If ya buy his Autobiography book, E.A.R.L., it has a lot of info about the stuff he did in the very early 90’s and pics as well…

I think it’s interesting this rocks the same beat that’d later get flipped for “The Nod Factor” but it’s done better than what Skills got to rock with.
