Doin’ It Well

Nitti f/ Gucci Mane & 9th Ward- “Do It“
Ju of D4L f/ Shawty Lo – “Do It, Do It“
Nitti was seemingly one of the more insidious producers to come out of the whole snap explosion. “It’s Going Down” was completely unredeemable and he has the uncanny ability to turn up Trae records when he’s least needed. According to his wikipedia page, he did produce a big chunk of Eightball’s Almost Famous which was a solid record, as well as “Crank Dat Roosevelt”, which was less solid. He gets sparse on “Do It”, one of those joints where you keep waiting for a beat to drop and it never does. It’s all claps and hihats and water drops. And incredibly warm synths. Oh and Nitti is a apparently a vocalist now, too. Right, right, okay.
“Do It, Do It” is weeks old, but seems pertinent in that it has a similar title and aesthetic. All these dudes have expanded their palette from just blips and bleeps to blips, bleeps and really lush synth pads. I’m not sure who’s behind the boards on this one but it basically sounds like some old stripped down Aphex Twin shit. This Ju character is apparently “of” D4L, despite the fact he appears nowhere on their only album. Can somebody explain this phenomenon?
The rapping on both songs is uniformly forgettable. Instrumentals please. (via Bfochs)

Actually, that discography looks pretty good. Talk To Em, Dem Boyz was alright (maybe I’m just a sucker for videos where Diddy’s ridiculously out of place, and hearing that song makes me nostalgic for the days when I was real young and foolish and thought Jeezy was garbage), and, um, I’m an It’s Going Down defender. Like at first it seemed so generic and his flow was so simple that, like, I could use it singing in the shower, but now I enjoy it. To me the best part is how Nitti doesn’t even seem to know who Joc is, on the intro he’s like, “his name is Joc – Joc? He’s from College Park – right? He’s a new member of my squad – right?” Moments like that make a record for me. As did the video. The butterfly dance is just too funny. I don’t know. It’s hard to resist a huge hit like that. The only huge hit the past few years that I hated when it came out and still hate is My Humps. Like I’m even sold on Lollipop now.

I can’t listen to this right yet cuz of silent hospital imacs, but I just wanna mention Crank dat Roosevelt has my full support…maybe Ju was in his native Montgomery Alabama when D4L dropped their full-length but either way he hooked up with them during the aftermath, I might doubt the authenticity – but I saw his necklace….has anyone been to Toejam? I stopped by there a couple years ago, door locked and fourwheeler in the lobby
