16 Shot Thoughts

They let me keep the masters.[1]
y mas
“Went to sleep real… woke up realer” is unquestionably the best opening line of any rap album in 2008.[2] Too bad Definition of Real is all down hill from there.
Internet Rap Joke To Retire: The Foxy Brown “Affirmative Action” New Mathematics joke.
Busta Rhymes is unable to tell the difference between shit and Shinoda.
Why must everyone spit over the “A Milli” instrumental? The beat is unmemorable at best, the appeal lies solely Wayne’s raps. Remove them and you’re left with nothing. The qualitative disparity between lyrics and beat is almost Ras Kassian. Change le beat if you must, but leave le rhymes in tact. St. Louie, Fab 5 Freddy? This is just like the time a bunch of bedroom producers thought the production was the problem with American Gangster. Except in reverse. And speaking of which…
It is astounding how quickly Peedi Crakk has transformed from fresh faced prospect to bitter major label cast off. He’s like Robin Williams in Jack. Expect to see the rapper life cycle continue to accelerate as the White Man Money dries up.
Speaking of White Man Money: if the majors insist on only letting five rappers release albums each year, there needs to be some sort of law enacted that will prevent Nas from being one of them. He’s just never a safe bet.
I’m not naming names, but there is perhaps nothing sadder than receiving a relentless stream of “Will Rap On Your Song for $500″ myspace bulletins from a once favorite rapper. Maybe it’s time to get a real job, nameless rapper. Or get on Facebook, at least.
“What’s a goon to a goblin?” may be the most effective SAT question never written.
Jeff Cohen : Jermaine Dupri
Best all caps near-sentence I’ve read in a long time: “Z-RO NEW ALBUM “CRACK” COMING IN AUGUST 08!!!!!!”
Internet Rap Joke To Resurrect: The Warren G Misspells Nxet Joke.
Nostalgia in tact, not even Wayne’s indulgent autotunage can ruin this quasi-Hot Boys reunion. Still, there is admittedly a certain chemistry lacking. The Hot Boys of old functioned as a unit – sharing hooks, finishing each others bars. Here they each just spit a sixteen and bounce. Hopefully Turk will complete the cipher when he comes home.
Which reminds me: Juvenile is a top ten all time rapper.[3]
I don’t think we’re doing polls anymore. Unlike other sites, Cocaineblunts.com does not feel obligated to pretend to care about the opinions of readers.[4] The one about “ni&&a backwards” won, if you were wondering. Shouts to Elian Gonzalez, though.
[1] I’m also getting $8/unit.
[2] Though, personally, I’ve done neither today. So apologies in advance for any glaring typos.
[3] Today.
[4] By a strange logistic loophole, this approach actually works in your favor, but I’ll spare you the details.

Post-soundtrack related, shouldn’t nicky’s new album drop right about now?
June 7th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Great news about the Z-Ro album!
And that “hero” single makes Nas a safe bet for me.
June 7th, 2008 at 9:48 am

hey you ever heard that joint with mac dre and nickatina i thin nickatina start off i got the key to ya city but still pick the lock
June 7th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
i think the ‘a milli’ beat is kinda great?
June 7th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
1. You listened to the Plies album??
2. The Milli beat sucks, but the qualitative disparity between beat and lyrics isn’t that great because Wayne’s lyrics aren’t that good either.
3. Speaking of Hot Boys, Chopper City In The Ghetto >> any Wayne album.
4. Juvenile’s no top ten all-time rapper… 400 Degreez just might be a top-20 all-time rap album though.
June 7th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
a milli beat is incredibly good
June 7th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
WHATS THE NAME OF THIS SONG?
June 7th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
my rap world (remix)
June 7th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
It took me a minute to warm to ‘a Millli’ but the beat is bananas. The main rhythm is slow, but the intense vocal chop and the 808s give it a polyrhythmic thing that Wayne works to the fullest..switching his time up accenting different parts of it.
Yo, what happened @ XXL? I might have to un-bookmark them now..
June 7th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Jesus, Juvenile fucking snaps on that B.G. track.
June 7th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
fuck all that milli. not that great.
i hate to be that dude that just thinks where he is has the best music or whatever, but the bay is like 10 years ahead of all this typa shit. im not talkin bout that loud dumb shit.
i mean do you guys really think that wayne is worth talking about this much? and hes all they really got to talk about?
i love wayne, but im not really interested in listening to 400 mixtape songs. i wouldnt even listen to 400 nicky mixtape songs. well i would. but cause there would be 30-50 songs that transcend rap.
i mean damn. is crank snap t-wayne really yalls future? you fine with that? im not sayin the south killed hip hop or nonna that typa shit. yall are just letting a&r and marketing and promotions and the radio dictate what we are into. some fuckin snap song had some dance or whatever, a youtube hit, and now they only gunna fund trap snap bs for the next year. just like how yall going to have to wear 90s clothes for the next year and a half cause of here and nyc.
yall can catch me listening to reek daddy and smokin for less than 3 a zip. im not gunna be fuckin with this site cept once in a while. i respect the fuck outta the ooooold cocaine blunts, i got respect for you noz, but i am basically uninterested anymore. i mean, at some point imma be forced to hear these songs over the speakers at some whack bar anyways.

TO SHERM LINES, I COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN SAYING THE SAME SHIT TO YOU HAD THE HYPHY MOVEMENT NOT FLOPPED.
YOU PROBABLY HATE WHEN PEOPLE STEREOTYPE THE BAY FOR JUST PRODUCING HYPHY MUSIC, SO WHY STEREOTYPE ANOTHER REGION?
June 8th, 2008 at 1:14 am
Give a point to Purple Hulk for that one.
June 8th, 2008 at 1:33 am
I have to say, I looked up this reek daddy and he’s pretty good. In fairness to the south, though, it’s not all snap and t-wayne – they’ve got Trae, Z-Ro, and Paper Route Records too. (Although I am a little skeptical of anyone who gets so much ink from the fader/discobelle crowd.) And even snap isn’t so bad – franchize boyz have their moments, I really like get silly… that said, it is true that the south has been a disappointment in some ways. I mean, take Chamillionaire or Lil Flip. People forget it but three years ago Chamillionaire was supposed to be the next great southern lyricist and Flip was getting write-ups from Kelefa Sanneh in the New York Times. Even noz was a huge fan. And Three 6 was bringing the whole new Willie Hutch-and-hi-hats sound to the table. Today, they’re a reality tv joke, Flip’s doing bad videos on BET Uncut, and Cham just fell the fuck off. Meanwhile, the other 52 next big things from Houston remade Still Tippin 8000 times, Lil Jon fizzled out, Luda got worse and worse with every album, Outkast put out that awful Idlewild soundtrack, Killer Mike got shelved a lot, Bun’s cameos got staler and staler, David Banner squandered whatever potential he ever had, and the whole rap world was suffused with the obnoxious sound of DJ Khaled screaming his empty head off. All that hype and just not a lot to show for it. If you had to pick a few albums to sum up what the South’s done the last 5 years, what would you even take? Thug Motivation 101? Trap Muzik? Crunk Juice? Who Is Mike Jones? I wonder.

G Code is so fuckin underrated, Magnolia and Something’s Gotta Shake bang.
June 8th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Should I use my stimulus check for the “$500 for a verse” rapper? Maybe I can have him record a new voice mail message for me.
June 8th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Wayne is so overrated its not funny. …who ever that rapper is he is struggling, but hustling……..plies lyrically is weak anyway….I do bob to the beat occassionally….Juvi top. Ten..please…and yo..you can suck a dick with that bay area shit….them niggas wouldn’t know platinum if a nigga gave em’ a chain!!!!!

I think Lord Infamous is the $500 verse. Just intuition.
June 9th, 2008 at 10:25 am
“ha” is a top 5 track
June 10th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Re: “People forget it but three years ago…Flip was getting write-ups from Kelefa Sanneh in the New York Times.” Ha! Have you read the NYT in the past 5 years? Is there a terrible Southern rapper that Kelefa Sanneh, a skilled writer with the worst taste in music of any legit music journalist, hasn’t made sound like the second coming of ‘Pac? As someone who kinda sorta makes a living writing about rap music, I still get a kick out of the fact that the first time I heard of Pitbull was reading the Sunday freakin’ Times, via a “Culo” blurb so convincing I actually looked into some Armando Christian Perez (who’s actually a really cool guy in person but may be a worse rapper than Plies) on a Limewire run.
Which reminds me. K-San now works at the New Yorker. Can an iconic, dentist office-ready cover portrait of the “My Dougie” kid be far behind?
June 10th, 2008 at 1:19 am
What is the source of that Z-Ro album info? Cant find any reputable sources to corroborate that.
June 10th, 2008 at 10:34 am
grams the bay go hard fuck what ya heard they support themselves bra spice-1, 40 water , too short , mac dre , mac malll niggas go hard
June 10th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
Well, the New Yorker did do a write-up on J-Kwon once, so nothing would surprise me… anyway, K-San was an awful example, but Flip really did seem to have some promise in between the release of Underground Legend and You Gotta Feel Me.
June 10th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
TO YABOYPO….I feel you on the self support shit. Cause when I lived in Tn I saw first hand how a region can hold down their artists…But..With all due respect most of them bay area niggas wack. And what the fuck is(WAS) hyphy??? And if it is so damn hype why do these niggas be whispering??? Ill give you E-40 cause he affected the whole U.S. With his slang…but Spice-1 can jump off a bridge…I’m not one of those dudes who says if its not NY its not hip hop. But I am one of those guys who knows what sounds good to him…and most of those niggas( the ones I’ve heard) SUCK!!!
There might be some underground cat over there that’s a beast, but I’ve never heard, or heard of them.
June 10th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
fuck you noz
i need to defend hyphy
but i cant post
June 10th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
noz why did you suspend me from posting for a few days???!?
hyphy, according to record promotions, is just plain bay area rap for the most part. it had a connotation before promotions that was way more significant. it has a lot to do with techno music. its about minimalism, hence the whispering. in real hyphy music there will never be loud punctuating stab samples. its a lot about being danceable, because we actually dance at rap shows round here. we dont lean back or whatever, we have real movements. it literally does sound like raver shit. very uptempo beats. hyphy is something that is conveyed WAY more often live. it started live and it mainly exists in its purist form live. the word hyphy is supposed to basically connotate acting spontaneously to the music – going dumb. the raps are often double time or staggered.
now the stuff on the radios, even the radio here mind you, has very little to do with real hyphy. real hyphy happens on friday and saturday nights. its not necessarily in a rap show, it can just be dudes freestyling over minimalist breakbeats. the flows have mostly to do with shining, dancing, bitches, thizz, driving.
its a terrible example to say in front of haters, but just check out The Pack – At The Club
I got love for 40 n short n spice n them, but in reality, check out the myspace music pages for ‘million dollar digital’ (except the ap9 song) ‘million dollar dream’ ‘reek daddy’ ’shag nasty’ ‘pat rich’
andre nickatina – lil coco
the pack – at the club
smoov e – KYHOMPB
shag nasty – unlimited
equipto – think twice
reek daddy – turf life
lolo swift – this how we lay low
baldhead rick – nothin but life
June 10th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
“noz why did you suspend me from posting for a few days???!?”
Haha what? If only I knew how to suspend posters.
June 10th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
idunno, i made some giant hyphy apologist post a few days ago, and it said it posted, but it didnt. i figured you didnt want tha superhater posting during the hard body female shit. you did a good job on that muhfucka man.
and
in the same way that hyphy dont really exist outside the town, i could imagine that perhaps there is a snap movement that is for reel.
